Newsroom
News and Events; Resources for Journalists
The Kavli Foundation is dedicated to promoting increased public understanding and support for scientists and their work. The Foundation offers media resources and services to professional journalists interested in our programs, institutes, professors, Kavli Prizes and other activities. We also support journalism programs aimed at increasing the public's understanding in basic science.

An archive of press releases and media advisories issued by our news
office, as well as press releases/advisories from the Institutes that
have been posted on the Foundation's website. Most releases include
links to downloadable photographs.
Kavli Journalism Programs
The Kavli Science Journalism Workshops are directed at journalists and
administered by the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship program at the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology. With the subject matter rotating
each year among astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience, reporters
accepted in the competitive program are provided a unique opportunity
to learn in-depth about the science and issues in these fields from
researchers based at the university and other institutions, including
the Kavli Institutes.
The Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) and The Kavli Foundation jointly sponsor the KITP Journalist in
Residence program. The KITP solicits applications from journalists and
science writers to spend up to 5 months at KITP as Journalist Fellow.
The purpose of the program is to promote excellence in scientific
journalism by bringing journalists, science writers and science editors
in contact with physicists working at the frontiers of science, and
through interaction, educating physicists on how to communicate their
science to the general public.
Additional Resources for Journalists
EXPERTS AVAILABLE TO THE MEDIA
For journalists seeking expertise or perspective on science, several Institute communications offices have provided contact information for scientists available to the media. Each profile includes a brief summary of the scientist's area of research, along with phone number, email address, time zone and other contact information.
SCIENCE OVERVIEWS FOR JOURNALISTS AND EDUCATORS
The Kavli Foundation has commissioned overviews of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. These overviews provide introductions to what is happening in these fields, what are proving to be the most tantalizing questions and formidable challenges, and what the impact is on how we regard what to expect in the future.
Frontiers in Astrophysics. How did the universe begin? When – or for that matter will – it end? Answering questions about our very existence is often at the heart of astrophysics. Today’s astronomical explorers seek answers to several deep
questions about the nature of space, the astrophysical objects it
contains, and the universe’s composition, history and future.
Frontiers in Nanoscience. Nanoscience and nanotechnology seem to embrace
everything from biomedicine to rocket science and computer technology.
And in the 21st century,
scientists will not only use molecules as building blocks for creating
vital new technologies, but possibly as the basis for creating
synthetic life.
Frontiers in Neuroscience. Armed with the human genome and a combination of cutting-edge
genetic methods and brain imaging techniques, lab scientists are
exploring the neural circuitry of living animals in ways they could
likely have never dreamed of 20 years ago. Such efforts promise to
bridge the gap between studies of the cognitive powers of the mind –
traditionally the turf of psychologists and linguists – and
investigations of the physical brain by neurobiologist
