Noel
MacDonald is Fred Kavli Professor of MEMS Technology at the University
of California, Santa Barbara where he holds faculty appointments in the departments
of Materials and Mechanical and Environmental Engineering. A member of National
Academy of Engineering, Professor MacDonald specializes in the area of microelectromechanical
systems (MEMS). He is widely recognized for his contributions to the development
of the Scanning Auger Microprobe and for micromachined micro-Instruments. Before
coming to UCSB, MacDonald was on the faculty at Cornell, and more recently, served
as Director of the Federal Microsystems Technology Office at the Defense Advanced
Research Projects Agency.
Professor MacDonald holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of California,
Berkeley and a PMD Certificate from Harvard University.
