About

Advancing science for the benefit of humanity

The Kavli Foundation was established in 2000 by Fred Kavli, a Norwegian-American entrepreneur and life-long champion of science.

Fred Kavli’s vision for the foundation is to advance science for the benefit of humanity. We aspire to this vision through our mission to stimulate basic research in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience; strengthen the relationship between science and society; and honor scientific discoveries with The Kavli Prize.

Our funding is organized around four fields—astrophysics, nanoscience, neuroscience, and science and society—with the aim of identifying potentially transformative ideas and catalyzing opportunities to create lasting impact for science and humanity.
