Professor Michael Turner Transitioning to New Opportunities

Professor Michael Turner, a long-time Kavli Foundation partner, most recently as a senior strategic advisor, will be transitioning to new roles this summer. Beginning in July, Michael will co-chair (with Caltech’s Maria Spiropulu) the National Academies’ 18-month Decadal Survey of Elementary Particle Physics. The study aims to help federal agencies, policymakers, and academic leadership understand the future prospects for and societal benefits of particle physics research. This study is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy. He will also be in residence at the Aspen Center for Physics this summer and a Miller Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley in the fall.

Michael has been an invaluable partner with The Kavli Foundation. He first served as Director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics at University of Chicago (2010-2019) and then as Senior Strategic Advisor to the foundation (2019-2022).

“We are grateful to Michael for his long involvement with The Kavli Foundation, and I am pleased to share that he will continue to provide expertise by serving on a President’s Advisory Committee at The Kavli Foundation beginning in 2023,” shared Cynthia Friend, Ph.D., president. “I look forward to our ongoing interactions.”
