Andrei Faraon
Director, Kavli Nanoscience Institute
Dr. Andrei Faraon is the William L. Valentine Professor of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering and the Fletcher Jones Foundation Director of the Kavli Nanoscience Institute at Caltech. Faraon earned his bachelor’s degree at Caltech and earned his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford University. After a postdoctoral position at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, he returned to Caltech as an assistant professor, became a full professor in 2018, and named the Valentine Professor in 2023. Recognitions that Faraon received include the Optica Fellow (2020), Adolph Lomb Medal (2018), KNI-Wheatley Scholar (2016), Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2016), National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2015), and Air Force Office for Scientific Research Young Investigator Award (2015). Faraon’s research interests include solid-state quantum optics and nano-photonic technologies for devices that operate close to the fundamental limit of light-matter interaction.
