Kavli ScholarOleksandr Trybrat

Oleksandr Trybrat is investigating a new class of nanomaterials that offers a platform for anchoring homogeneous catalysts onto solid supports, which is important in several sustainability challenges such as storage of hydrogen in organic molecules, synthesis of new types of solid acid catalysts, and stabilization of perovskite colloidal nanowire networks for energy conversion. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in Dr. Alexander Katz’s laboratory at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Trybrat earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Institute of Organic Chemistry in Kiev, which is part of the Ukrainian Academy of Science.
Dr. Trybrat’s research has led Berkeley to process a broad composition-of-matter patent on the platform of nanomaterials that he has been developing. However, even has his research was ongoing, the DOE program that had been supporting Oleksandr and other Ukrainian scientists was suddenly terminated. The Kavli Scholarship provides one year of support to enable Dr. Trybrat to continue this valuable research.
